Prom Makeup Look: Gold Smokey Eyes

With prom season coming up, I thought I would create 3 makeup looks for the occasion. Today's look is based on a gold smokey eye. For the majority of the look, I'm using the Naked Palette but you can use any gold shadows you have.

I'm going to start with the eyes because that's where the focus of the look is. I primed my eyes using the Urban Decay Primer Potion to ensure the shadows stay all night. I also took a bit onto the lower lash line since we are putting shadows there too. Taking 'Naked' on a crease brush, work this into the crease as your transition shade. You don't have to be precise, just keep blending. Picking up 'Buck' on the same brush, blend the colour into the crease. This is to define the socket even more. Keep building up the colour until you get your desired intensity.

Using a flat shader brush, pick up the shade 'Half Baked' (or any gold shadow you have) and pack this directly onto the lid; try not to get this colour in the crease. To smoke out the look, take 'Smog' on another flat shader brush and pack it onto the outer V. Using the same crease brush from earlier, blend it out. You can keep building this up as much or as little as you would like. To add even more depth to the eye, using the same flat brush, take 'Darkhorse' and focus the shade out the very outer edge of the eye. Keep blending and building up the colour.

Run 'Buck' all along the lower lash line to add definition and to keep everything balanced using a pencil brush. Pick up the shades 'Smog' and 'Darkhorse' on the same brush, focusing the colour on the outer corner of the lower lashline. To finish off the lid, pack more 'Half Baked' on a flat brush or on your finger and focus this on the inner third of the lid. This is going brighten everything up and draw the attention to the eyes.

For the brow bone pick up a little bit of 'Virgin' on your finger and run this under the brow very lightly. You can blend it with a brush but I just used my finger to soften everything. I kept the eyeliner very simple and just used a black liquid liner very close to the lash line. On an angled brush, I went over it with 'Creep' to smoke it out and soften the line. I love doing this because it's such an easy way to smoke up an eye look. To finish off the eyes, take a clean blending brush and blend out the edges making sure everything is soft and there are no harsh lines. Finally, curl your lashes and add your favourite mascara and falsies. (I didn't wear falsies for this look, just Maxfactor False Lash Effect Mascara and L'oreal Telescopic Mascara.)

For the rest of my makeup I stuck to products I know and love. I used my Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation (what else?!) and the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. For blush I wanted to keep it natural and chose my Sleek Blush in 'Flushed' which is a beautiful mauve pink that doesn't take away the attention from the eyes. I did do a little bit of contouring but nothing too intense. I used the Natural Collection Eyeshadow in 'Crushed Walnut' with a bit of bronzer over the top to help blend everything together. I was going for a natural face with this eye look because the eyes were quite heavy. Finally for lips I chose a combination of the Revlon Lip Butter in 'Wild Watermelon' and the Tanya Burr Lip Gloss in 'Chic' on top. There's something quite magical about these two lip products together; it creates the perfect peachy pink lip that suits pretty much every complexion. You can keep things nude and just stick to the gloss but if you want to amp it up even more, I think a red lipstick would be stunning. I personally love my orangey reds but any red lipstick would look great. If you want to add red lips to the look but don't want to go full on opaque then the L'oreal Rouge Caresse in 'Rebel Red' would be perfect for you!

I hope this has given you some inspiration for your prom. I thought it would be fun to put together some looks to suit a few different options. Next on the list in a romantic eye look which will be up on Monday so stay tuned for that!

What makeup are you wearing for prom?

Thanks for reading,

(P.S. Please excuse my frizzy hair- when it rains it tends to channel Monica from Friends!)
