Tried and Tested: Barry M Contour Kit

Contour kits really seem to be having their moment. Virtually every brand, high end and drugstore, are coming out with their version of a contour and highlighting palette. I finally managed to track down the Barry M version and I have to say, I'm impressed.

The palette contains three shades; a yellow toned highlighting powder, a warm bronzing powder and a cool toned contour powder. All three shades are completely matte yet very creamy and smooth. They're very easy to blend and never look harsh on the skin. It's a great one for beginners because it also comes with a little guide on how to use each powder.

I love two of the shades. The yellow toned highlighter is perfect for under the eye and the high points of the face. It brightens everything up and would work on most if not all skin tones. The contour shade is also pretty much perfect. Cool enough to mimic a shadow but not so cool that it makes you look grey and ashy. This shade would work on fair to medium skin tones. I'd love to see Barry M release a few more shade variants of this palette because it's one of the better contouring products I've come across.

I do have a couple of critiques aside from it's lack of shade range for deeper skin tones. First of all, when you dip your brush into each pan, it kicks up a lot of powder. I find it best to dab your brush in and to tap of the excess before applying it to the face. It's quite strange that they kick up so much powder because the actual texture isn't powdery at all.

I also find the bronzing shade to be a bit too pink on me. It tends to make me look a little muddy and dirty. That being said, it makes a beautiful eyeshadow. It is a very versatile palette; since all three shades are matte, they work very well on not only the face, but also the eyes and brows. At £6.49, that's a pretty good deal.

Despite its small faults, I love the Barry M contour kit. It's perfect for everyday contouring and highlighting and it's a great addition to my makeup collection.

What's your favourite contour kit?

Thanks for reading,

  1. I love this palette! I also found them really soft but when I was swirling my brush round in the palette there was a lot of dustiness - strange! I use the yellow shade most days to set my under eye concealer :) xx

  2. This looks like a lovely kit. I'm yet to buy myself a contour kit so might buy this one in the future. Thanks for the tip about applying the shades on the brush will come in handy if I get this x
